The Sankeertana is one of the 32,000 sung by Sri Annamacharya in praise of Lord Venkateswara. This Sankeertana is the delight the Lord's devotees relish upon the shravanam of Vishnu Katha, the story of the Lord. The keerthana is an address to the devotees of the Lord to listen with great enthusiasm; and assimilate the essence of the story of the Lord, Vishnu Katha.
Meaning
Sri Annamacharya, in this Sankeerthana, describes that the mere listening to the Story of the Lord (Vishnu Katha) is as sacred a duty as to perform nitya karmas, for instance, Sandhya. The story of the Lord is a cushion to the devotee for keeping his life going happy just as a child is slept comfortably by its mother. The story of the Lord is what Vyasa Maharshi drawn quintessence from the Vedas and elucidated, into a soft and lucid tale. The story of the Lord is what Narada sings while roaming the three worlds! The story of the Lord is as fragrant and fresh as the cream and butter that has freshly emerged out of the buttermilk obtained by the ladies of the cowherd family. This story that sings the name of Lord Venkateswara is the Gateway to His abode. So, listen and relish the quintessence of the Vishnu Katha with great vigour and enthusiasm !!
O lord! it is time for you to hear the myriads of queer strange requests of your devotees. O lord! why dont your lift the "mosquito net" formed by the (slough of the) serpent , Adisesha ?
The night has passed on to daybreak. Look, there are the Devas and the Munis Look yonder, ther are all waiting in huge numbers here and there to have your darshan. O Lord, please gently open your cool tender lotus-petal-like eyes.
O Lord, the mighty Adisesha and others, Tumburu, Narada, lotun born Brahma and others have all gathered near your feet and are waiting! O Lord VentateSa, wake up, open your eye-lids, and look at your consort, Alamelumanga and wake up! O Lord, it is time that you woke up and lent your patient ears and listened to all these countless appeals of the devotees.
