O Lord! Please support me by forgiving my crimes who, blinded by intense envy and arrogance, had slandered pious people like daily routines. 2. In front of on-lookers, I became (apparently) like one immersed in chanting of Lord’s names; O Lord! please do not hesitate; please support me - who is bereft of meditation on Your holy feet - by forgiving my crimes. 3. Joining those who belong to (keep company of) women, I wasted time; and I failed to recite the stories of qualities of the Lord which are beneficent to the life. 4. O Lord Sri Rama! Please have mercy on me who has sought refuge in You; O Excellent Lord praised by this Tyagaraja! It is not possible for me any longer. |
Variations
- 3nāku – nādu.
Commentary
- 1straiṇa janulu – ‘those who desire the company of (other) women’; therefore ‘belonging to women (straiṇa)’. It is not clear whether it means ‘womaniser’.
- 2vīṇāḍitini – in Telugu, there does not seem to be any word ‘vīṇu’; it is probably the morphed form of the tamil word ‘vīṇ’ meaning ‘wasteful’, ‘useless’.
