Hari ninnu pilichini adigo amma (హరి నిన్నుఁ బిలిచీని అదిగో వమ్మా) is a sringara keerthana by the 15th-century composer-saint Annamacharya (Annamayya), set in raga Devagandhari. In the song a friend (sakhi) of Goddess Alamelu Manga speaks to her. The Lord has had a lovers' quarrel with her, and the friend gently asks her to stop hiding behind the curtain and go to him. Each verse praises her with a new comparison and asks her to do one small thing: give him the betel roll, look at his face, speak to him, smile. In the last verse the friend asks both Alamelu Manga and Sri Venkatesa to come together and rule over "us", the devotees. The audio here is sung by G. Balakrishna Prasad and N C Sridevi. TTD places it in the album Paluku Tene Talli - 2. Below you will find the lyrics in Telugu, an easy-to-read English transliteration, word notes, and the meaning in English and Telugu.

Meaning of Hari ninnu pilichini (in English)

This is a summary of the idea of the song, not a word-for-word translation. A few phrases are old Telugu and can be read in more than one way, so please treat this as one reading.

  • Pallavi: Look, Hari is calling you, lady. Why stay hidden behind the curtain any longer? Draw it aside.
  • First charanam: O friend, who are as lovely as a painted picture, give the roll of betel to your husband here. O tender lady, who shine like fresh lightning, look at the face of your loving husband.
  • Second charanam: O lady like a golden doll, come forward and speak to your husband. O lady like the arrow of the god of love, why this reserve with him? Won't you smile?
  • Third charanam: O young woman, delicate as a tender shoot, you have joined Sri Venkatesa without holding back. O Alamelu Manga, shining on the lotus, think of us kindly and come, both of you, and rule over us.

The song is a sakhi's gentle persuasion. She flatters Alamelu Manga with a different comparison in each verse (a painted picture, lightning, a golden doll, the god of love's arrow, a tender shoot) and asks her to end the quarrel with small acts of love. In the last verse the song turns to the devotee. The poet addresses the divine couple together and asks them to look after the people who sing it, which is how Annamayya's sringara songs often end.
