Telugu lyrics

Meaning of Aunayya manchivadavannita (in English)

This is a summary of the idea of the song, not a word-for-word translation. The song is a playful, teasing address to Lord Venkateswara. Each stanza begins with the same ironic praise: "Yes indeed, you are good in everything!" The speaker, a companion of the Lord's consorts, lovingly points out how the Lord charms and pleases each of them in turn, and how he calms the one who feels left out.

  • Pallavi: "Yes, sir, you are so good at everything!" The Lord is shown playfully delighting his beloved.
  • First charanam: While being served, he pleases one lady with tender gestures. When another lady wins his attention, he turns to her with the same affection.
  • Second charanam: One lady is busy with her adornment and he stays close to her. Another watches with a frown, and he soothes her with a smile and a quiet signal.
  • Third charanam: He attends gently to yet another lady. And when Alamelumanga, pleased with him, embraces him, he lovingly lets her rest on his chest (the place where Lakshmi dwells).

Annamayya often wrote in this style, where the loving bond between a devotee and God is expressed as a playful relationship between a lord and his beloved. The song should be read as devotion, not as a worldly story.
